The highly-awaited second season of the musical adult cartoon Hazbin Hotel launches on Prime Video this week, and fan speculation has been intense.
Season 1 presents a large cast of characters living within Hell and Heaven, pits them against each other accompanied by songs detailing their conflicts, and establishes tense rivalries and angsty, affectionate connections that drive fan obsession.
The community's expectations for season 2 vary widely, but certain threads recur frequently: Could Angel Dust break free from Valentino? Might we learn more about the binding agreement constraining Alastor the Radio Demon? Will [favorite character] and [other character] finally get together?
"Obviously, I don't produce the show with fan service specifically in mind," the creator commented recently. "But I feel like me being a devotee of the series means there's a lot of it just inherently. I also am eager for these things, and I hope some of these things to occur, and obviously some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
She reveals her long-term vision is for five seasons of Hazbin Hotel. Seasons 3 and 4 have already been green-lit by Prime Video and A24, which finance the series.
That could imply viewers have to be patient for some of the biggest payoffs — but they could be shocked at how quickly the new season progresses, and how much of what they're anticipating happens this season.
"I believe people are going to get a lot out of it," the creator notes. "There are several debut moments. I think we receive some incredible reveals, some fascinating backstories, and even basic elements, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] We're going to hear additional musical numbers from the characters we didn't get to hear before."
She's certainly aware of the guesses and hopes about season 2 — particularly in the form of fan bingo cards.
"I've seen a couple people make a bingo card about season 2," she mentions. "Obviously I won't share it, but I've actually done some of them, and nearly every one of them have almost a bingo. I thought, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that leads me to believe we accomplish much [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I was like, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that brings me joy."
Hazbin Hotel the second season premieres on Prime Video on Oct. 29.
